A Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering Mechanical Manufacturing is one of our most common apprenticeships.  Working within companies who supply to the oil and gas industry, the ministery of defence, the mining industry, aeronautical industry and many others.

This can be an exciting career, working on some major projects like the manufacturing of industrial fans, compressors, valves, hydraulic parts, fuel nozzles for some of the top aircrafts in the world. A career that can take you all over the world and probably one of the most valuable types of engineering in today’s market.

There are many pathways within this qualifications e.g. Fitting & Assembly, CNC Operations,


EAL, SQA, SEMTA approved

Level 2 PEO – Performing Engineering Operations

Candidates will spend approximately 20 weeks here at P & J Training where they will complete a minimum of 8 units of the PEO.  These units will include Health & Safety, Milling, Turning and CNC.  You will receive a certificate on completion

Level 3 Skills Qualification

This is a workbased qualification completed within your employers premises.  You will work with a mentor on a variety of projects building up a portfolio of evidence and knowledge throughout your apprenticeship.  Our assessor from P & J Training will visit every 4 weeks to assess your work and progress for the next 3 – 3.5 years. You will receive a certificate on completion. P & J Training will support you throughout the entire apprenticeship


Typically you will attend college on a day release basis for a period of 2 years where you will gain the minimum of a National Certificate in Engineering Mechanical Manufacturing, however most of our companies will also support you through an HNC also and in some cases HND and University.


When your taining is complete you will receive your Modern Appreneticeship in Engineering Mechanical Manufacturing certificate.

Here at P & J we can offer apprenticeship training to any age group, however, we receive a funding contribution from Skills Development Scotland for 16 – 19 year olds, 20 – 24 year olds and now 25+.

The funding amount will vary depending on the age of the apprentice.

Ideally potential candidates should have school qualifications to National 5 level C and above in the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Physics or Chemistry
  • Design & Manufacture or Graphic Communication
  • Plus a practical subject e.g. Engineering Skills, Woodwork etc.
